New home trends for 2008

Ravishing reds are everywhere! The home furnishings market is saturated with gorgeous red wall coverings and textured fabrics, velvets, corduroys and cut velvets, embroidered and embellished. Terra cotta and rust are universally appealing, and gold is also a very prevalent color in the new year.

Shimmering silver is at the height of fashion in clothing and home furnishings, where it sparkles on furniture and fabrics. Look for mirrored accents and silvered panels on tabletops, dresser tops and fronts.

Blue remains a comfortable choice for consumers, from soft blue-green tints to deeper blues that appear very much at home when combined with brown. Robin’s egg blue is very prevalent in fabrics, upholstery and paint.

A major comeback story is the étagére, in combinations of wood, metal and glass. At the annual fall furniture market, many of the major furniture manufacturers offered étagéres to be used as room dividers, as bookcases and as accessories. These pieces were displayed in transitional to contemporary room settings in many different shapes and sizes.
