The Christmas Haus Pop-up Store Coming to Gettysburg’s Grant Building

July 1, 2017 @ 10:00 am - July 30, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

PRESS RELEASE

The Christmas Haus Pop-Up Store

Coming To Gettysburg’s Grant Building

Gettysburg, Pa. (June 23, 2017) — The Christmas Haus will be the first pop-up store to come to Gettysburg’s Grant Building at 12 Chambersburg Street.   Opening on July 1, The Christmas Haus owner Roger Lund will be bringing his German artisan merchandise, currently available only at his New Oxford store and on his internet store, The  ChristmasHaus.com, to downtown Gettysburg, through July 30. The pop-up store will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

“We are thrilled to have The Christmas Haus as our inaugural pop-up retailer. We joined the owner of The Christmas Haus, Roger Lund, on his buying trips to Germany – and have come to appreciate all that goes into traditional German craftsmanship.   The quality of this artisan work makes The Christmas Haus the perfect choice for the inaugural flash retail event in our new space,” said Monica E. Oss, one of the owners of the Grant Building.   “This is the first of a series of exciting flash offerings that will be coming to the southwest corner of Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square.   We plan to turn this corner of the square into a series of pop-up events – with high-end retail, art, and culinary offerings – over the next year.”

In the United States, the concept of pop-up stores – and flash events – started in Los Angeles and has made its way to the East Coast. The name comes from the temporary nature of the operation – ‘popping up’ one day and disappearing the next. But, the concept is quite old – dating to the temporary December markets in Austria and Germany from the 1300s.

“Our plans for flash events on the southwest corner of the Square are just rolling out. In mid-May, we had just moved our staff for OPEN MINDS, our national health care market intelligence firm, into the Lincoln Square Building.   And, shortly thereafter, we were pleased to sponsor the Syracuse University Tuba Euphonium Septet performance on SW Lincoln Square as part of the Brass Band Festival and plan to bring other entertainment to the Square,” said Ms. Oss. “The Grant Building is being remodeled into a multi-use flash event space – which will feature art galleries, retail space, meeting space, and a commercial kitchen.   And, we have leased the previously-closed café at 14 Lincoln – currently under renovation – which we plan to use for private culinary events.”

“Our inaugural art show in the Grant Building will feature Lisa Chu in a pop-up show during Gettysburg First Friday Art Walk on Friday, August 4,” said Ms. Oss.   Lisa, a California-based artist, returns to Gettysburg, one-year after her month-long artist residency. At the pop-up show, Lisa will present illustrations inspired by the landscapes and vistas of today’s Gettysburg, as well as new mixed media works completed during the past year representing a dialog between the people of Half Moon Bay, California, and the themes of hope and commitment expressed in Lincoln’s Gettysburg address. I am a big fan of Lisa’s work – and I’ll thrilled that she will be in Gettysburg.”
