A Painter’s Journey

Hanover music teacher finds rhythm in watercolors

Some artists are born with a talent that’s discovered and nurtured throughout their childhood. Then there are artists born with a talent that’s present—only it’s not immediately recognized. Instead it simmers beneath the surface, just waiting for the right light, the right inspiration, the right moment in time.

That’s how it was for Hanover artist Ron Schloyer. Born with incredible talent, it was cultivated later at age 22. After training for and becoming a vocal and music teacher, Schloyer happened upon his talent on one snowy winter day.

“I came to painting quite by accident,” he says. “As a kid I had taken a few classes, but never pursued it. But during my first year of teaching, we had a snow day and I was stuck in a small apartment with a loss for something to do. We had some oil paints in the house, and my wife at the time suggested I do some painting.”
