Making a wedding cake for a friend or a family member is an act of love that’s well worth the time and effort. For Martine Cajas, owner of The House of Clarendon, it’s not only an act of love, but also a gift that is eminently elegant.
At The House of Clarendon, a European-style tea room and bakery in Lancaster, wedding cakes of all colors, shapes and sizes fill the windows and display cases. If the fashion runways of New York City were paved with buttercream and fondant, these cakes would take top honors. The decorations on these elegant cakes, in fact, take their cues from the fashion world—bright lines, bold designs, yet tastefully classic. The cakes are a study in graphic imagery.
Cajas, 34, admits he gets his inspiration from the natural world. “Inspiration is all around you,” he says. Pointing to a bouquet of roses, he notes, “Even in these flowers, you have this incredible form and color.”
